Hello! I´am Helena
- About me:
I am a responsible, organised and enthusiastic young woman, who is always looking for new opportunities to develop myself and help others. I consider myself empathetic and understanding, as I always try and put myself in other person’s shoes. I have been living abroad twice as well; in Belgium for 12 months and in the Netherlands for another 7 months. Those experiences made me even more open-minded and non-judgmental.
One of my biggest hobbies is travelling. I enjoy everything about different cultures, from the cuisine and language, to the difference in mentality. I always try to immerse myself in the culture of where I am as I feel this is the best way to experience a country in its truest form. Aside from travellling I also love nature and wildlife, probably because when I grew up in Spain I was regularly surrounded by animals due to my father being a lecturer in veterinary science at the local university.
About my family… I believe that the stereotypes of Spanish people being incredibly close to their families are very accurate. This was certainly true for my family background, where at every opportunity my parents, my younger brother and I would spend the weekends or holidays with my grandparents at their house in the mountains of Jaén, Andalucía. These trips would mainly revolve around spending time with lots of different family members (including children of course!) and eating wonderful homegrown food that my grandparents prepare themselves.
Finally, my educational background is almost exclusively centered on science. I hold a BSc. in Biotechnology and a MSc. in Molecular Genetics. I chose this path as I have always been curious about the reason behind how things work, although recently I have been considering pursuing work that is based more around interacting with people from diverse nationalities, backgrounds and who speak different languages, such as working in hospitality, tourism or translation.
Aaaaand, sorry for my lack of ability summing up!
- Dear family:
I normally spend my summers with family members of all ages and I especially enjoy playing with my two youngest cousins (aged 5 and 8). They are extremely energetic and they transmit all that energy to everyone around them. That is probably the main reason I love being surrounded by children, the passion and fun for life they transmit.
Apart from playing with younger cousins, I have also worked as a tutor for young children. It began when I was approached by a family friend and asked if I could help with their children's science, Spanish and English homework before any important exams, but soon I had other people asking for similar classes and before long I had around five clients. The children I taught ranged from age 6 to age 14.
Additionally, I have been living on my own for 7 years, so helping with housework or other duties would not be a problem. I can cook as well, although that is not a strong point of mine if I am being honest (I still have lots to learn!). In return I would love to get to know you and I hope to make a real difference to your family.
- Why Au Pair?
I would love the experience of becoming an au pair, as it is a wonderful and fulfilling job, and doing it abroad is a perfect way of being able to experience other cultures, help a family and feel like a big sister to the children.
I can’t wait to embrace this new challenge!
